Newsletter, August 2009

Hello fellow club members! This is Sam Snow, founder, Midwest Carp Anglers Association. Summer is finally here! Water levels are close to normal at most venues and the warm weather brings out crowds of anglers. It is a good time to show off your tackle and techniques, just try to keep calm while Frisbees, volley and soccer balls are bouncing off your rig and the boaters are running over your lines. Get your family and friends together and go carp fishing! Be safe and good luck! Sam.

CLUB NEWS

The organization is continuing to grow, this is an exciting time!
Including the four new members signed up at the tournament in Ottawa and a few more signed up off the internet, there are just under two hundred members!
Starting in September, I will be writing a monthly column for the “Outdoor Notebook” about
the MCAA and carp fishing in general in the Midwest region. Pictures, tournament results, rig information and new venues will be included.

ANNUAL DUES.

The annual dues is $2.00 per year, from March 1st, 2009 through February 28th, 2010. New members who signed up on or after September 1st, 2008 will not have to renew their membership until March 1st, 2010.

Becoming an MCAA member is fun, educational and affordable. With the economy, job issues, politics and poor fisheries management (at least in this area), carp fishing the ‘MCAA Way’ is a good recreational choice for individuals, families, beginners and experienced carp fishermen.
With a “staycation” becoming a reality for many people, it is a good time to join up and take the family carp fishing.

ONGOING EVENTS

The MCAA “Summer Series 2009” is underway. Frank Rink is leading the common and mirror carp divisions and Gruia Oltean is leading the grass carp division. There is still a month to go in the tournament. Nothing is final, but Frank set the bar kind of high with two big fish caught early in the year. The grass carp division is still up for grabs. I will be surprised if the winning weight is under thirty pounds. There is no charge to participate; you must be an MCAA member and your dues must be current. For entry information, please check the website.

USING THE WEBSITE

Members, please send in your personal best carp pictures, commons, mirrors, grass carp and koi. It does not matter when or where you caught it; they are all great to see. Also, if you have fishing tackle you are not using and maybe want to sell, list it on the sale page. There is no charge for this. Please check the website for details.

Soon, on the website, there will be a listing of members and the tournaments in which they have won or placed, both MCAA and other organization’s events. Members Frank Rink, Mike Olinger and Paul Wells have won so many events lately that it is getting hard to keep track of them. Here's a start to that website, but we need more to submit their lists of carping accomplishment: Click here.
