Newsletter, February 2010

Hello fellow club members! Happy New Year! This is Sam Snow, founder, Midwest Carp Anglers Association. It has been a strange but good winter fishing season so far. Fish poisoning by the ‘authorities’ has caused some venue and tactic changes, but there are still a lot of nice carp being caught. The winter season is a good time to show off your tackle and techniques because most of the other species fisherman are indoors reading magazines or attending outdoor shows. The people that you meet on the bank are either hard core anglers or interested observers who are highly likely to convert to carp fishing. Winter carp fishing requires some extra planning and preparation, so take your time, be safe and go catch some winter carp! Good luck! Sam.

CLUB NEWS

There are some new events and venues added this year. All of them should be fun and competitive. Please check the calendar for changes in venues, especially on the Des Plaines River, Cal Sag Channel and Little Calumet River. With the ‘authorities’ seeming to lean towards mass poisoning as the latest weapon of choice against the Asian carp, these three venues and others may be adversely affected.

ANNUAL DUES.

The annual dues are $2.00. The dues year runs from March 1st, 2010 through February 28th, 2011. The dues can be sent through Paypal, mailed or paid at the next event that you attend. Dues paid after January 1st, 2010 will be applied to the upcoming season.

Becoming a MCAA member is fun, educational and affordable. With the economy, job issues, politics and poor fisheries management (at least in this area), carp fishing the ‘MCAA Way’ is a good recreational choice for individuals, families, beginners and experienced carp fishermen.
With a “staycation” becoming a reality for many people, it is a good time to join up and take the family carp fishing.

ONGOING EVENTS

Paul Pezalla caught this 27 pounder recently in the MCAA Winter Tounament

The MCAA Winter Tournament is heading into the home stretch. Dr. Frank Rink is running the tournament, making it easy to join, fun and exciting. Thanks, Frank!

There have been some incredible catches, but do not let that stop you from entering. One good day at the right venue can vault you to the top of the leader board and into the money! You can follow the tournament on the ‘Results’ section of the website.

USING THE WEBSITE

Members, please send in your personal best carp pictures, commons, mirrors, grass carp and koi. It does not matter when or where you caught it, they are all great to see. Also, if you have fishing tackle you are not using and maybe want to sell, list it on the sale page. There is no charge for this, please check the website for details.

There is a page dedicated to members and their accomplishments in MCAA and other organization’s carp events. Take a moment, put you name and victories on the list. Tackle, bait and equipment manufacturers are always looking for photogenic people with good track records to be spokesmen or spokesmodels, who knows, this small step could lead to fame and fortune!
