Mike Olinger outdistances everyone! Do you remember the song about Michael Jordan entitled, "I want to be like Mike"? Well, such was the case on Saturday, July 19 as Mike Olinger netted 70% of the total carp caught and easily won the Hampton Dam Challenge with 7 fish weighing in at over 30 pounds. Mike also took home the "big fish of the day" money with a long 15.5 pound carp captured with 15 minutes remaining in the tournament. Bill Bean weighed two fish totalling 15+ pounds to take second place honors, and Cory Bohmann's 6.5 pound carp was enough for a bronze medal. There were twelve
entries in the tournament in weather that started a little rainy
at 8:00 a.m. However, by 8:30 skies cleared and conditions
were great for the rest of the day. Obviously, nobody won the MCAA 200 which featured an additional prize for the tournament participant who was first to weigh a tenth of a ton of carp (200 pounds) during the event, but maybe next year. Congrats to the winners and thanks to all who were a part of the MCAA Hampton Dam Challenge 2008! |
