The Rules

1. Peg draw for each session will be conducted at Bicentennial Park (South) in Joliet, Illinois.  A consistent location for the draw will be determined at the first session of the league.

2. The peg draw will be EXACTLY one (1) hour before the start of fishing.  Peg draw is at 7 AM.  Fishing begins at 8 AM.  Fishing ends at 4 PM.

3. Pegs/flags shall be 10-20 yards apart and will be staked out by the league official(s) and numbered PRIOR TO DRAWING PEGS.

4. A double draw will determine each angler’s peg prior to every session. (If an angler is running late, he can call and have another angler or official draw for him.)

5. Anglers may go to their pegs immediately after they draw. All pegs will be along the west shore of the Desplaines River at Bicentennial Park (north and/or south parks). If there is an uneven number of anglers, three of you will be pegged together, although the third peg (farthest away from the end peg) will be a sliding peg at the discretion of the angler. You can set up your gear anywhere from 20 yards (60 feet) to 50 yards (150 feet) from the peg next to you. Once you have chosen, that is your peg for the session.

6. During the preparation period (between 7 and 8 AM), competitors may set-up their gear, test their rigs, and plumb depth. YOU MAY CHUM AT THIS TIME

7. Ground bait/chum may be thrown-in by hand, by catapult, throwing sticks, and bait droppers.

8. Anglers must be positioned NOT farther than 3 feet to either side of their peg/flag. An angler may fish up to HALF THE DISTANCE TO THE NEXT PEG on either side. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO THE ANGLER WITH AN END PEG!

 9. Anglers will be restricted to fishing with 2 poles, 2 lines, and 2 hooks at a time. An angler may have as many spares set-up and ready as wanted, but he may only use two (2) at a time.

10. Ledger, feeder, hair-rigging, and float fishing are allowed.

11. NO artificial lures such as jigs may be used.  Imitation baits are allowed: plastic corn, boilies, etc.

12. An angler MUST STRIKE and PLAY the fish UNASSISTED.  Netting the fish may be done by anyone.

13. All fish will be weighed in the presence of an angler from the next peg (buddy system). Each fish weighed will require the weight, time of catch, and signature of the next-peg angler recorded on the score sheet, or the fish WILL NOT COUNT! A fish must be released alive and able to swim away in good shape, or the fish WILL NOT COUNT! Eligible carp are commons, mirrors, crucians, hybrids/goldfish, and koi.

14. Competitors MUST STOP FISHING at 4:00 PM sharp!  Since we will all be fishing different locations, there will be no horn or whistle, just an honor system.  All fish must be landed and out of the water by 4:00 PM.  Once again, the honor system applies here, and other anglers should take note to make sure no fish are landed after 4:00 PM. Anglers are to submit their score sheets to the organizer at the conclusion of the session.

15. In case an angler or anglers do not show up to fish, an official will remove or add pegs prior to the draw to ensure that the buddy system remains intact for the weighing of fish and for safety reasons.

16. All anglers must have a valid Illinois fishing license.

17. The entry fee has been reduced to $100 to fish in the league, but there is a 157% return of fees in prizes, due to an additional $400 donation. Anglers can pay $10 per session rather than having to pay the entire $100 all at once. However, anglers may not be in arrears during the first nine sessions for more than $10. If in arrears for more that $10, he will not be able to participate in the session. By the time of the last session on March 26, the angler must be up-to-date in payments. If an angler drops or is forced to drop from the league before his $100 total entry is paid, there will be no refund of fees paid to that point.

18. If river levels and/or debris in water don’t allow the league to fish on a given Saturday, the league will be moved to another suitable Saturday. (This rule can be discussed as a group at the venue at the time cancellation occurs).

19. If an angler arrives at his peg, and a local angler is fishing in that peg, then just set up as close as you can to your assigned peg. If that puts you too close to the next assigned peg, the angler at the next assigned peg will have to adjust, also, to allow both anglers room.

20. Tie-breakers--Prizes are awarded for series total weight, biggest 5 total weight, biggest fish. In the case of a tie, the weight of the biggest fish caught by the angler during the series will determine the winner. If, by chance, the tied anglers have the same sized big fish, the winner will be determined by a coin toss.

21. Have fun, be safe, keep warm, and catch some fish!
