2010 Lily Cache Carp Tournament Results - in words and pictures! |
|---|
A big "thank you" to those who participated in the October 30 Lily Cache Carp Tournament! What is especially appreciated are those who commit to an event and actually fulfill that commitment. As has been the case for the past two years and despite relatively warm, but windy, weather, the venue was very headstrong about giving up its carp. Although we caught almost twice as many fish as were captured last year and although everyone had at least one run, "small, few, and far between" best describes the captured carp. This will probably be the last time Lily Cache is used as a venue. Nevertheless, the participation and commitment by those who attended are valued. |

Cory Bohmann's peg photo well exemplifies the posture that all of us had throughout most of the day. In an eight hour session with 10 participants, only 13 fish were captured. Cory was among those who caught fish. The temperature at mid-day was 60°+, but high winds seemed to turn fish off! Due to the iffy weather in late October as well as the infrequent bite by small fish, Cory suggested that the Lily Cache venue be replaced next year by Spring Lake near the Fox Valley Shopping Mall in Naperville/Aurora. Sounds like a good plan. |
| Jim Rink led the way in the early going with three catches within the first hour or so of the tournament. His four fish on the day easily won him most fish honors, and he finished the total weight contest in second place. Congratulations! | ![]() |
Jim's 5 lb., 6 oz. catch held big fish honors for most of the event and actually finished the day as the second biggest carp. The pictured carp was his smallest of the day, but it still counts. |
| Tracy Jourdan fished the event for the third year in a row, and completed a three year streak of either multiple fish or multiple runs at this tournament. He was the only other angler, besides the Rinks, to catch more than one fish and, once again, placed near the top (third) after catching these two common carp. If you observe Tracy's tactics, you can learn a few things about catching carp at Lily Cache. | ![]() |

Dennis Davis should be awarded the "Maybe-Next-Time" prize for his seven runs, but he only netted one fish in a difficult, shallow peg. Whatever bait Dennis was using was certainly working, as he had more runs than any of us. Dennis will be a participant in the upcoming J-Town Frozen 40's Carp League, and we look forward to some impressive results! |

Dan Ramir found some carp gold by casting to the far side of the lake, resulting in several runs and this nice entry. Those casting skills will help him in the upcoming Midwest Winter Carp League in Milwaukee. | ![]() |
| 2008 Lily Cache winner Mike Olinger (The Demon) is always in the hunt and was close again with the pictured carp at this year's event. He is the organizer of the J-Town Frozen 40's Carp League that will be held from November 2010 through March 2011 in Joliet, IL. He is also in Group A in the inaugural session of the Midwest Winter Carp League in Milwaukee. That first session is scheduled for November 7. | ![]() |

Andrew Chione caught the first fish of the day and had a couple other runs. He and his brother John are and will be a force with which to reckon in future events. We appreciate his attendance at this event, and we hope he becomes a regular at Illinois and midwest tournaments. |
| Carping guru Paul Wells drew a shallow swim area but demonstrated his skills with a vast variety of tactics. The one fish that Paul did coax to his hook decided to make its run while Paul was using the "facilities." As we know, Paul will be right in the thick of things at the next event. | ![]() |

John Chione is hardly a newcomer to carp fishing, but we were pleased to welcome him as a first timer to one of our annual events. John got pegged in a tough, relatively shallow area of the lake. He had a couple runs, however. |
Thanks to those who attended! Your commitment to your word is appreciated!
