The "DesPlaines Demon" is back!

The April 17, 2010 MCAA Rock River Valley Challenge™ at Levings Park Lake was an all-day battle of the two and three pound “popcan” sized carp. The venue was a last minute change from the swollen, flooded Rock River. It had us fishing a little too early for the season at the 26 acre lake.

However, Mike Olinger caught a sackful of those 2-3 pound fish and was named gold medalist of the event with nearly 50 pounds and over 15 fish.

Larry Seeman had to interrupt his tournament participation to run to Walmart for another rod/reel combo after one of his rigs was pulled into the lake while he was weighing a fish. Nevertheless, Larry took second place in the event.

Fred Rhodes caught the big fish of the day by far at 9+ pounds, and that served as an excellent foundation for his bronze medal finish in the event.

Winners (l to r) Larry Seeman (2nd), Mike Olinger (1st), Fred Rhodes(3rd)

Branko Krinzic won $50 for second big carp of the day (5-2) and Dan Ramir took home $20 for the biggest nuisance fish (3+ lb. channel cat). Robert Kraft and Larry Seeman won $50 Bass Pro Shop Gift Certificates in the post-tourney raffle.

Forty (40) carp were caught and weighed 131 pounds, 4 ounces. That's a 3.28 pounds per fish average.

Sixteen anglers participated. Three new members joined MCAA.

Thanks, as always, to MCAA Founder and Tournament Organizer Sam Snow, who always produces prizes that exceed tournament entry fees.

Special thanks to Larry Hemmens who scouted several venues throughout the days preceding the tournament and who also pegged the venue.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who participated!
