It
was truly a shoot-out at Lily Cache on so many levels! The
October 25, 2008 MCAA winner-take-all tournament at the Bolingbrook,
Illinois lake pitted entrants against windy, wet, and cold
elements;
match-fishermen against carp anglers; new MCAA members against
charter members; and, of course, finicky, post-front carp
against those who strove to catch them. When the dust settled,
it was
Michael Olinger, once again, who took home $340 for both
the total weight and biggest fish championships.
The
tournament was up for grabs until the final gun at 4:00 p.m.
had Mike, with a catch of 19 pounds 15 ounces, winning the
total weight purse ($240) that included a 13-0 pound carp that
took big
fish honors ($100). MCAA newcomer Jim Rink finished within
less than 2 pounds of the leader as he caught carp totaling
18
lbs. 6 oz. Jim also caught the second biggest fish at 10-5.
Tracy
Jourdan
rounded
out the top three with another bag of fish (17-7) within 2
1/2 pounds of Mike's. Tracy caught the third biggest carp
of the tourney (9-8).

(Mike Olinger took it all
home, followed (l to r) by Jim Rink and Tracy Jourdan)
It
was ironic that Mike's 13 pound top fish was the same fish
he had caught a month and a half earlier at Lily Cache during
a short session. The photos show that the fish has picked up
some weight this fall
and
is doing
well. Actually, that same fish has also been caught by Jim
Rink and Tracy Jourdan over the past month or so.
(Mike
Olinger's winning "Muddler" has been caught several times within
the past couple months!)
Although
the anglers who typically use carp related gear had
bags that outweighed the match fishermen, the match-anglers
caught more fish and had sacks that weighed in the teens.

Better
weather would have resulted in heavier totals, but most of
the 14 entrants caught fish. Thanks to all for your participation!
