It was a tough fishing day for the MCAA Lake Storey Challenge
held on May 16. Over nine inches of rain in the previous twenty-four
hours and weather fronts constantly moving through the area turned
the
carp bite off.
Eleven participants braved thirty mph wind gusts, high water levels
and a lot
of mud.
There was a "Big Nuisance Fish Pot" set up for the largest non carp
caught during the event. In past events at Lake Storey, nuisance fish have included
a thirty-six inch muskie and a twelvepound channel catfish. Frank Rink brought
the BNFP home with a two pound channel
catfish which turned out
to be the only fish caught all day.
This has been a tough spring for fishing at Lake Storey, it has been the wettest
spring on record for the Galesburg area.
Lake Storey is a great venue,
with anglers having a good chance to catch really
large carp. We will be back!
